Softball Qualifier EventTeam roster Team Kingdom of the Netherlands for Softball Qualifier disclosed

16 July 2019

From the roster that won every game except the final during the European Championship, two players had to drop out. During the Softball Qualifier Europe/Africa the selection consists of only fifteen players. National coach Connie Clark has chosen to start the tournament with four pitchers and two catchers and therefore had bad news for Marielle Vleugels and Laura Wissink, who both made a good impression during the European Championship. A difficult choice, but a choice that had to be made because of the restrictions of the WBSC.

To reach the Olympic Games, it is expected that in addition to the opponents from Group A, South Africa, Spain and Great Britain, the team will also have to deal with Italy. The players of the Kingdom Team then have to take a revenge for the 3-2 lost final of the European Championship in the Czech Republic earlier this month.

Short stop Britt Vonk indicates that the lost final will only provide more motivation: “The fact that we lost to Italy in the final has only ensured that we are fired up even more. It will be difficult, because every team has strengthened considerably with American softball players. Our advantage will be that we are well attuned to each other. We are looking forward to it and even prefer to start today!”

Eight teams will compete, but only one team will earn their ticket to Tokyo.
