Softball Qualifier EventItalian pitchers shine in win over Botswana

Italy won their first game of the Softball Qualifier, defeating Botswana 7-0 in 5 innings. The combined efforts of Italian pitchers Greta Cecchetti and Ilaria Cacciamani produced a No-Hitter, with 13 strikeouts and only one hit by pitch allowed.

Italy scores the first runs of the game in third inning against Onnetse Seth, the starting pitcher for Botswana. Amanda Fama singled and Laura Vigna hit home inside the park for the 2-0 lead. Then, Italy scored the 3-0 run as a result of some errors made by the Botswana defense.

In the next inning, Italy extended its lead to 7-0, thanks to 4 hits, including two extra bases by Amanda Fama (triple) and Emily Carosone (double).

Botswana offense were unsuccessful against Italian pitchers. Greta Cecchetti and Ilaria Cacciamani collectively threw a No Hitter in 5 innings, with 13 strike outs and only one hit by pitch allowed.

Tomorrow, Botswana will take on France at 10.00, while Italy will face Czech Republic at 16.00.


The top eight softball teams from the Europe-Africa region will travel to the Netherlands and compete at the Take Off to Tokyo in 2019. The tournament will be hosted in Utrecht from the 23rd to the 27th of July, and will showcase six European and two African countries as they battle it out on the softball field. Eight teams will compete, but only one team will earn their ticket to Tokyo.
